Curriculum

All students in grades TK-4 receeive 50% of their instruction in English and 50% in Spanish. The goal is for students to be proficiently biliterate in both languages, and eventually receive the district Seal of Biliteracy on their high school diplomas. We will add 5th grade to the dual immersion program in 2019-20.

All students receive access to the Common Core State Standards (CCSS) curriculum. These standards focus on problem-solving and deep conceptual understanding, as well as requring students to explain their thinking. Golden Hill students are exposed to content in a variety of ways: through lectures, discussions, readings, video, hands-on learning, and collaborative work, to name a few.

In the 2018-19 school year, we are implementing a Project-Based curriculum at the middle school level, in an effort to make the learning of the Common Core Standards even more relevant and engaging for students. The principal and some middle school teachers spent a collective 25 years working at High Tech High, and are using these experiences, as well as the Buck Institute's "Gold Standard PBL" as we craft relevant learning experiences for all 6th-8th grade students.

The Common Core State Standards are aligned with the Smarter Balanced Assessment that California students in grades 3-8 take each spring. For detailed information about the curriculum, we encourage you to contact your child's teacher(s). See the "TEACHERS" tab for contact info. Thanks!
